The president of the United States, Joe Biden, wrote a letter to the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, in which he agreed that in order to address the migratory phenomenon from Central America, it is necessary to solve the fundamental causes of migration.
Biden considered it necessary to “expand the legal avenues of opportunity and protection in the US, consider asylum applications fairly and efficiently, reduce irregular migration and address the root causes of migration.”
The letter was a response to a letter sent by López Obrador on September 7, in which the Mexican president set out his vision on how the massive exodus of people from Central America to the United States should be addressed.
Biden’s letter was dated October 6 and delivered last Friday, October 8, during a meeting between Mexican and US officials.
