Half a Century of Service: Colonial Club Marks 50th Anniversary – WKOW

Colonial Club Celebrates 50th Anniversary
SUN PRAIRIE (WKOW) —  The Colonial Club, a hub for senior citizens with a history of being the first of its kind, celebrated half a century of service Sunday.
The club was built in Sun Prairie in the early 1970s, and it served as one of the areas first major senior centers.
“It’s evolved its services time and time again as the needs for senior citizens have evolved over time,” Gov. Tony Evers said.
On Sunday, the center marked its 50th anniversary with a grand reopening ceremony, following a difficult year of closures and cancellations because of the pandemic.
“Senior centers, certainly the Colonial Club, senior housing and senior citizens have had one of the most challenging times during the pandemic,” Dane County Executive Joe Parisi said.
The Colonial Club set a goal to raise $12,500 to continue its work, but they beat that goal by more than $50,000 Sunday.
“What is so striking to me is that, time and time again, the greater Sun Prairie community, the volunteers and the staff have come together to ensure older adults are receiving the support they so richly deserve,” Bob Power, the club’s executive director, said.
The club said money raised will go towards caring for seniors in the future.
