Groups seek your support on Giving Tuesday – WAOW

WAUSAU, Wis. (WAOW)– Groups throughout our area give back year round, but to accomplish their goals, they need help.
Area Boy Scouts are just one of the many groups you can support this Giving Tuesday. Recently the Wausau chapter helped peel potatoes for the First Presbyterian Church’s Thanksgiving meal.
“It makes me feel good. I know that my effort I put here tonight will help others on Thanksgiving and such and as a Scout it’s always good to have cheerful service,” Boy Scout Christopher Zamzow said.
The Scouts actions help put together roughly 800 meals for the community. Scout leaders said the meal is a favorite activity.
“Learning how to help others is one of the big parts of scouts but also seeing them want to come here and the result at the end of the day, giant mounds of potatoes, but the fact that we’re helping other families come and have a good dinner on a good day is what we’re all about,” said Scott Bouffleur, Troop Committee Chair Person.
In Portage County, the Boys and Girls Club is offering teens a late night hang out and meal on Friday nights.
“It gives teens in our area a safe and fun place to go to hang out with their friends,” Mikayla Kleifgen, Portage County Boys and Girls Club Director for Resource Development and Marketing.
Those meals cost $400 each Friday, taking funds from other activities. This Giving Tuesday, the club has a goal of raising $9,000 for the meals.
“If we raise the money and we meet the goal we would be able to do more fun things with our teens with that programming budget,” Kleifgen said.
