‘He was one in one’: Memorial service held for missing boater Parker Kruse
BLACK EARTH (WKOW) — Family, friends and loved ones of 22-year-old Parker Kruse held a visitation and funeral for him Tuesday. Kruse went missing in July when he fell into the Wisconsin River after saving a boater from the water.
“He’s brought so many people together and he’s taught me things that he’ll never know that he taught me,” Janna Johnson-Fuchs, Parker’s aunt said. “I’m just so grateful that I got to be his aunt and his godmother.”
Johnson-Fuchs and many of Kruse’s family members participated and spoke at the ceremony. Johnson-Fuchs said it was a nice break from the river.
Ever since Kruse went missing, Kruse’s mother Jackie Johnson-Kruse and her sisters have been searching the Wisconsin River for any signs of him, but have so far been unsuccessful.
Kruse’s girlfriend, Kourtney Higgins, gave an emotional testimony at the ceremony as well.
“I truly thought I’d never see a tomorrow without you, yet it’s been 150 days since I’ve seen your truck pull in the driveway or hear your voice,” Higgins said. “Some people say you never know what you got until it’s gone. Truth is, I knew what I had, I just never thought I’d lose it.”
Johnson-Kruse organized several boards covered with pictures of Kruse and his loved ones. Also displayed was a rock from the Wisconsin River gifted to the family with a quote from Kruse’s best friend Kallan Maxwell.

“Parker Kruse, I know you’re listening and I just want to thank you for being one of the most amazing individuals I’ve ever met,” Maxwell said. “And you’re just an awesome kid, and I’ve said the whole time, the rock says you’re one in a million, but Parker you truly are one in one.”
In lieu of flowers, Kruse’s family asks that people follow and visit their Facebook page, “Promise Parker.”
