Hon Reece Whitby MLA
Minister for Emergency Services; Racing and Gaming; Small Business; Volunteering
On International Volunteer Day, the State Government is calling for nominations for long-serving volunteers who help make our community a better place.
The WA Volunteer Service Awards program acknowledges the significant efforts of Western Australia’s volunteers.
The program promotes and celebrates the dedication of WA’s volunteers and raises awareness among the wider community of the importance of volunteers.
There were 166 Volunteer Awards recipients in 2021 recognised for their significant service to the community.
The program has been active since 2012 and recognises WA volunteers who have provided 25 years or more of voluntary service to a single organisation.
Approved recipients receive a commemorative badge for either 25 or 50 years plus of service, in addition to a personalised certificate of recognition.
Nominations are now open and will close on February 28, 2022.
The Awards will be presented during National Volunteer Week, May 16-22, 2022.
More information, including eligibility criteria, can be found on the Department of Communities website at http://www.wa.gov.au/organisation/department-of-communities/wa-volunteer-service-awards
Comments attributed to Volunteering Minister Reece Whitby:
"Many people spend their entire lives volunteering with community organisations or sporting clubs without ever considering themselves to be ‘volunteers’ – it’s just something that they do because that’s who they are.
"The WA Volunteer Service Awards recognise valuable work volunteers do, especially those who have been volunteers over many years – an amazing achievement.
"Volunteers play a vital role in Western Australian communities, making a social, economic and cultural contribution to the State valued in the billions of dollars.
"So many volunteers go unrecognised, and the WA Volunteer Service Awards are an opportunity for their service to be acknowledged."
