FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WV News) — The newly opened Inspired Vision in downtown Fairmont prides itself on offering local support for those in need of eyeglasses and optical services, but its involvement with mission work has already taken its impact to a worldwide scale.
The business, operated by Amy Graham, Inspired Vision’s owner, and Monte Graham, the business’s lead technician, opened Jan. 7. While it doesn’t provide customers with eye exams, the couple offer frames and lenses for those with a valid prescription, as well as cleaning, tinting, coating and repair services. In addition, Inspired Vision can order contacts for customers.
The Grahams said they recently came to the realization that owning a local business to provide these services was the next step in their shared journey.
“I found out that it was actually something I enjoyed doing,” Monte Graham said. “I got a job in an optics lab early on, and didn’t really consider it a whole lot as a career or profession until I saw the process. I really enjoyed that whole process, and years later, we both had an idea for a business. … We lined up the funding, and everything fell in place for us to start.”
While lens care was never exactly Amy’s passion, she said she’s always wanted to own her own business, and thus, Inspired Vision was born.
“I wanted to do something different, something for me and that I could feel good about, and this is where we’re at,” Amy Graham said.
While Inspired Vision’s primary focus is on its customers, the Grahams have used their business to get involved with mission work as well. Through a ministry called Mentor Leaders, Inspired Vision is providing a gift of 180 non-prescription reader glasses to a village in El Salvador, one of the many utilities and services going to the locals.
“They believe in sustainability, so they go into a specific village and help them be sustainable,” Amy Graham said. “It’s not living on a handout. It’s a hand up to get themselves going and keep going. They do a lot of different things. It starts out that they need a water source, but then they go into all of these things like what they’re going to do for food and income and keeping their village going. Part of that is medical. …
“That’s where we come in. We can provide the frames and the actual prescription if they get a way. Right now, they need to get an auto refractor, and it takes the prescription for them. However, that’s expensive and they haven’t gotten it yet. That’s why we’re sending readers so, in the interim, they can have something that will help them read and see better.”
Inspired Vision is also working on a way for customers to donate to send more glasses to villages in need in the future.
However, the business’s main goals have to do with Marion County, and Monte Graham said customers who come to Inspired Vision for services will get quality customer service and care that he said can’t be readily obtained at larger stores.
“If you come here, we try for a three-day turnaround,” Monte Graham said. “If you don’t like them because there’s something not right with them or they’re not fitting properly or something, you can come back and, usually, we can fix it that day, as opposed to bigger chains, where you will more than likely never see the lab those glasses were created in. We offer a quicker turnaround time and more personalized service.”
