New executive hires at Repeat Business Systems, Bestpass and FirstLight – Albany Business Review – Albany Business Review

Many Capital Region tech, tech service and software companies have seen significant growth over the past year or so. With that has come the addition of key staff roles.
Here are some executive-level staffers that have been added recently to help grow a few of the region’s companies.
Repeat Business Systems
IT firm Repeat Business Systems has named Steven Bruno as the company’s first chief financial officer, effective Feb. 3.
His new role includes overseeing finance and administration for all three company branches – Repeat Business Systems Inc., Ed & Ed Business Technology and Databranch.
Bruno has been with the company for eight years, starting as an accounting intern. He was then hired as a staff accountant and has been promoted twice before.
During that time, he has played in key role in merging financial systems of the company’s three branches, including following two acquisitions over the past two years, according to a statement from David Lynch, chief operating officer.
Dawn Abbuhl, company president, said in a press release: “It is rare for someone so young to excel to the extent Steve does. He is truly talented, not just with finances, but managing a team as well.”
The IT firm made its 12th and 13th company acquisitions in 2020.
Bestpass in January hired Jason Walker as the next chief revenue officer to lead growth and sales, marketing and channel partnership efforts. Prior, Walker was vice president of sales and chief revenue officer at Arizona-based GPS Insight, which was acquired by Acel-KKR in 2021.
The Bestpass software allows truck companies to more easily manage tolling and weighing operations.
Walker replaces Ken Creager, who was vice president of sales and marketing. Creager died last August, according to a company spokesperson.
David Druzynski, who was hired as vice president of people and culture at Bestpass last year, was promoted recently to senior vice president of people and culture, according to his Linkedin page.
The Colonie-based software company said last year that it surpassed 20,000 customers, doubling from a year earlier. Bestpass processed $1.2 billion in toll volume in 2020, an increase of 20% from the previous year and the most it’s ever processed.
Fiber-optic internet provider FirstLight last fall named Katie Brandl as the company’s vice president of carrier and wholesale sales.
Brandl joined FirstLight in 2019 as the director of sales in the western New York region. Prior, she had leadership roles with Fibertech Networks, Lightower Networks and Crown Castle.
FirstLight in 2020 made its eighth company acquisition in two years and has signed several new contracts since then. The company said at that time that it’s looking to continue growing access to its broadband network, especially in underserved markets.
