The City of Iowa City has promoted its Assistant Finance Director and Controller to the position of Finance Director.
Nicole Davies has been employed by the City for the past eight years. She replaces previous Finance Director Dennis Bockenstedt, who vacated his position in December 2021. Davies has served as Interim Director since his departure.
“Nicole brings exceptional financial and team management experience to this vital leadership role,” City Manager Geoff Fruin said. “She has a long-term career history in professional accounting and finance work and has been a highly successful team manager. I am excited to announce her promotion and am confident she will make an outstanding Finance Director.”
Davies received her Bachelors of Arts degree in Accounting from the University of Northern Iowa. She has worked for the City since 2014, serving as Controller, and then promoted to Assistant Finance Director.
During her time with the City, Davies has managed the operations of support staff in processing payroll, financial reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, grant accounting, and purchasing. In addition to managing multiple staff, she has been responsible for compiling the City’s annual financial report and coordinating the annual audit.
In her new role, Davies will oversee the City’s Finance Department, which is comprised of an Accounting Division, Purchasing Division, Information Technology Services Division, and Revenue and Risk Management Division. Davies will also be responsible for overseeing the compilation and administration of the City’s annual budget, as well as managing debt, investments and internal audit efforts.
Davies officially began her new position on Thursday, Feb. 11, 2022.
